The dmg file you are referring to is a "mountable drive" with which a Mac will use as if it were a hard drive. It can only open with a Mac operating system

doesnt work on pc.
If you want something similar to mac OS for your pc or netbook.
Check out Ubuntu or linuxmint.
There is even a guide to make it look similar to mac in the OmgUbuntu site.
Your friends wont notice the difference!
Anyway, i personally like how ubuntu and linuxmint look when installed, so i didn't need to make it look totally like mac.

Why is Apple always changing software and iMac too changing system? I have a 1.8GHz PowerPC G4 with 512 MB DDR, I want to install Mac OS X 10.6 on it but i could not simply because its not a dual inter processor. Does Apple want to collect all our money or expect us to just fold our arms when new software are being release or What! Now am stock with 10.5.8 and cant upgrade due to the system am having. These is not GOOD and its kills spirit seeing my friends playing with their system.
