A forwarded port is a security hole. When you forward ports on your router, they are open all the time. However, when you trigger ports on your router, they are only open as long as the PortTrigger application is telling them to stay open. Forwarding ports with PortTrigger is easy to setup, because you do not need to give every computer on your network a static IP address.
