Productivity software for the office has a player trying to pit itself against the Redmond-based software giant. One promising tagline in SSuite Office’s homepage is No Java and No Net. Why is this important? It means that the software runs perfectly on older PCs – in fact SSuite Office, after installation, only consumes a mere 57 megabytes on your hard drive! Office geeks who are consciously green should seriously consider this software. SSuite Office may add more years of useful life to your existing computer setup or it suddenly makes netbooks – the less powerful but definitely greener cousins of laptops – more capable of doing real office work.
Office software is traditionally a package consisting of spreadsheets, word processors and presentation makers. SSuite Office offers, aside from these three usual applications, its own email application called My EZmail, a browser, and a database called MonoBase.
There are thirty applications that are included in SSuite Office’s 37 megabyte download. There is software for managing and creating multimedia content like EZDraw for crafting artwork and EZDraw Photo Editor for viewing and editing photos.  Applications like the Wave player and recorder and the Trinity music player are some of the multimedia applications for sound and music.
There is also a Voice over IP application, using the increasingly popular VOIP communications protocol that allows free telephone calls (long distance included) over the internet. SSuite Office considers communications as an important part of office work so aside from VOIP, office workers can use LAN messenger, LAN scan and LAN chat to further improve the flow of information in the workplace.
SSuite Office is compatible with all MSOffice documents thus preserving existing and valuable documents. More importantly, SSuite Office will not disrupt office work flow because existing MSOffice files can be read natively, averting the need to convert files. Another great feature of SSuite Office is built-in PDF functionality which is great for publishing content online while preserving the layout of the document. It also ensures that viewers or downloaders of the file will not have the ability to change the file’s contents.
Perhaps the greatest thing about SSuite Office is that it is freeware. Links from SSuite Office’s webpage are available for download of several versions of the software package, including the recently added portable version of SSuite Office. This gives the software the ability of being run on a USB stick or SD card – a great feature for netbook owners.
